Barcelona star Xavi has urged team-mate Thiago Alcantara to be patient and wait for his chance at Camp Nou, amid reported interest from a number of European clubs.
The Brazil-born Spain international is believed to want more first team football and has subsequently been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Reports suggest both Thiago and Barca are open to a transfer but Xavi has urged the 22-year-old to remain at the club and wait for more time on the pitch.
He said: "Thiago is an extraordinary football, not just for the future, but right now.
"Right now he is not a regular starter but he needs to be patient, it also took me time to hold down a place in the team.
"I would tell him to be patient because he’s destined to be a key player here and to succeed."
It is understood that Thiago’s buyout clause is now at €18 million, after a clause in his 2011-signed contract dropped it down from an original €90m figure.
As such, Old Trafford officials are confident a bid of around £15m could be enough to tempt Barca into a sale, while neighbours City and Pep Guardiola’s Bayern are also poised to make offers.
